CCJA Summer Institute Week 1: 6/7-6/12
Jazz Theory Class (Level 2 - Intermediate) • Monday 6/7, Wednesday 6/9, Friday 6/11 4:00-5:30pm
Open to ages 11-adult
Our Jazz Theory Classes as part of the CCJA Summer Institute cover a wide array of theoretical topics with the focus on application for use in jazz improvisation and composition. CCJA Faculty will guide students through analysis of important musical forms and composition in the jazz repertoire and will shed light on chord progressions, modes, chord qualities, harmonic and melodic devices, and more!
The Level 2 (intermediate) Class assumes some background knowledge of jazz theory, including some familiarity with modes of diatonic major and some simple chord progressions, such as the ii-V-I and the 12-bar blues form. If you're unsure about the right placement for one of CCJA's Theory Classes, you're welcome to take our pre-test and we'd be happy to let you know which course is the best fit. Please email CCJA Staff Member Annie Booth at firstname.lastname@example.org for the pre-test.
