CCJA Summer Institute Week 1: 6/7-6/12
Odd Meter Ensemble • Monday-Friday 4:30-6:00pm • Performance Saturday 6/12 for CCJA Summer Mini-Fest (11am-4pm - exact set time TBD)
The Odd-Meter Ensemble is open to students ages 14-18 on any instrument with an intermediate to advanced background in playing jazz. If a student is in doubt wheter this group might be a good fit for them ability-wise, don't hesitate to email CCJA Staff Member Annie Booth at firstname.lastname@example.org for assistance.
Led by a professional jazz musician on CCJA's faculty (TBD), students in this ensemble will explore a varitey of repertoire in the unconventional odd-meter. Odd-meter playing (such as 5/8, 7/4, 11/8, etc) presents its own challenges and its own beauty and students in this group will focus on rhythmic strategies to feel these grooves more authentically and to improvise more fluidly over top. In addition, students in this groupw will work as a team to re-arrange jazz standards into odd-meter and multi-meter versions.
This group is limited to 8 participants and only one on each of the following instruments: drums, bass, guitar, piano, and vibraphone. Registration for this group and the spots available are first come, first served.
Instruments such as piano, bass amps, guitar amps, drum sets, vibraphones, and auxilary percussion are provided on-site.
